These bags are made in Ghana by a social enterprise dedicated to tackling the problem of plastic waste, particularly drinking water sachets. The collecting team gather 250,000 pieces of plastic waste and 2000 yards of waste fabric every month from the streets and beaches of Accra. The bags are then made in a solar powered factory by local fair trade artisans who are mainly women. Up to 70 sachets are used in each item and any leftover waste is recycled into plastic pallets so this is a truly zero waste process. The bags are brought to us by Trashy Bags who, like us, are members of BAFTS Fair Trade Network UK.
