Banana silk is made from waste fibres scraped from the bark of the banana tree and handspun into yarn. It is then dyed in amazing rainbow shades. It has a lovely soft texture and a pearly sheen and makes a great vegan-friendly alternative to our recycled sari silk yarn. The colour and thickness vary along the length, which means anything you make with it will be completely unique. It is great for knitting or crocheting, it also makes a fabulous eco alternative to ribbon as a wrapping string.

This fair trade yarn is handmade by Fair Trade artisans in Nepal. The workers, mainly women, are based in small workshops or private homes around the Kathmandu valley and benefit from flexible working conditions to suit their personal circumstances.
The use of a waste material reduces the amount going into landfill and this makes a great environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic yarns.
